About
Iona was born in Glasgow, grew up in Kintillo, Perthshire and has roamed a few far flung places of the world. She is now living in Fife. Her songwriting is inspired by some of those places. Her songs are Celtic tinged and her solo performances are heartfelt and enigmatic. Iona's musical outlook ranges from acoustic finger picked guitar, to pop-rock, to more subtle ambient electronica and experimental styles.
Her unique song-craft has been honed over many years. Iona feels driven to explore her passions, emotions, philosophies and captures poignant life experiences often concerning relationships and spirituality through song, which are ever harnessed by a captivating use of lyrical imagery and delicate melodies.
She has been a Danny Kyle finalist at Celtic Connections in Glasgow and has played numerous gigs and festivals, including Fence Records events, the Acoustic Stage Glastonbury, Cosmo Jazz in Chamonix, and more. Iona has written and self produced several albums, EPs and singles. Her music has been released on De-Fence Records and she's collaborated with many great musicians.
Iona’s earliest live music memory is hearing her mother on acoustic guitar singing a 1969 Bollywood classic ‘Mērē sapanō ki rānī' - Queen Of My Dreams. The rest is history

“Lovely voice. I’m a big fan of this pastoral, picky acoustic music. It’s nice to hear something like that but with a modern edge.”
Rod Jones, Idlewild, The Skinny

“She sounds like Karine Polwart after a gap year hanging out with the Dalai Lama and listening to The Velvet Underground.”
Mike Scott, The Waterboys

“The cosmic synth-folk of Marshall’s ‘Shtoom’ is so beautiful it’s quite upsetting. It is Mike Oldfield’s ‘Moonlight Shadow’ for the DIY pop generation. It is perfect.”
Nicola Meighan, The List
